My areas of interest include women's international health and development, household gender dynamics, and decision-making autonomy and power. Many of the substantive areas in which I am interested, fall squarely in demography, while others, such as domestic violence and physical well-being, push the bounds of what is normally considered population research. I bring an interest in these problems from both a demographic and sociological perspective.

My long-term goals are to gain a better understanding of the relationship between household dynamics, gender relations, and demographic outcomes. More specifically, I would like to understand the individual and societal factors that influence or impinge upon both adolescent and adult choices concerning schooling, the timing of partnerships, intimate partner violence (IPV), and reproductive health. A key step in this process is to understand the choices adolescents make regarding key demographic decisions which will most likely determine a substantial proportion of their options as they reach adulthood. I hope that results from my research will enable policy-makers and activists to better address persistent gender inequalities. In blending training from sociology and demography, I hope to integrate knowledge about the importance of culture and setting with data collection, sophisticated analytical techniques, and methodology.
