Research and Professional Experience

Most of Dr. Boult's research has involved epidemiologic and clinical investigations into methods for improving the health of older populations. He created and validated a widely used brief questionnaire (the Pra) that identifies older people who are at high risk for medical events that require hospital care. Recently he completed three randomized trials of multidisciplinary interventions designed to improve the health care and the quality of life of high-risk older people. "Geriatric Evauaton and Management" (GEM) reduced the likelihood of functional loss and depression by 33% and 56%, respectively.

Dr. Boult's present research centers on the development and testing of novel approaches to organizing, financing and delivering health care to many chronically ill populations. He is particularly interested in collaborating with others to improve the outcomes experienced by people whose chronic illnesses require care that spans the hospital, post-acute, and home care settings.
