Research and Professional Experience

From 1999 to 2002, Dr. Tarwater was an assistant research professor at the Bloomberg School of Public Health. Dr. Tarwater's research included bivariate processes and nonlinear models for characterization of trajectories of immunologic markers after treatment in HIV-studies, the comparison of methods to determine the effectiveness of antiretroviral therapies at the population level in HIV-1 incident and prevalent cohorts, the impact of antiretroviral therapy on the trajectories of immunologic and virologic markers of disease progression, and longitudinal assesments of HIV prgrerssion markers among those who discontinued HARRT. Dr. Tarwater collaborated closely with investigators of the Multicenter AIDS Cohort Study (MACS) and the Women's Interagency HIV Study (WIHS). Current collaborations with the Retrovirus Labortatory within the Department of Comparative Medicine at the Hopkins School of Medicine have focused on research identifying the neuropathy of HIV disease and treatments via SIV macaque model of HIV progression.
