Research and Professional Experience

My research interests focus primarily on airborne contaminants. I am interested in quantifying these contaminants, identifying their sources, investigating their chemical composition, and following the routes of human exposure. Included in my current projects is the exploration of the metal content of particulate matter related to vehicle exhaust. The metals of interest are vanadium, nickel, zinc, and the platinum groups metals used in catalytic converters. These metals, in their various oxidation states, are known to induce and/or exacerbate symptoms of respiratory disease. Through my involvement with the Johns Hopkins Particulate Matter Research Center I am exploring the relationship between exposure to ambient particulate matter and a range of health outcomes through a details analysis of ambient PM.
