Dr. Pearl S. German is professor Emerita in the Department of Health Policy and Management with a joint appointment in the Department of Medicine. She is a faculty member in the Center on Aging and Health. She holds an O.Sc. from The Johns Hopkins School of Public Health, a Masters Degree from the University of Chicago and a bachelor’s degree, phi beta Kappa, summa Cum Laude from Hunter College.

She has taught classes in Gerontological and behavioral sciences, carried out research in these areas and mentored students since 1970. She designed and directed a certificate program in Gerontology. She has carried out research in a broad array of areas relating to the older populations including nursing home populations, mental health, environmental influences on older populations, medication patterns, and preventive programs for the gerontologic population.

Dr. German received the Stebbins Medal, the Key Award from APHA Gerontology Section, Student Assembly recognition award and Distinguished Alumni Award from Johns Hopkins.

Dr. German has served on a broad array of Boards including the Brookdale Foundation, Broadmead, The Baltimore Committee on Retirement and Education, been the Faculty President at the School of Public Health and the Chair of the Gerontology Section at the American Public Health Association. She is a Fellow of the Gerontology Society of America.

Dr. German has over a hundred referred publications and numerous book chapters and special committee reports. She has been on editorial boards and a Member of NIA study sections. She has served on numerous school and department wide committees. She has delivered a number of special presentations and was a member of the Johns Hopkins Press Advisory Committee.
