Research and Professional Experience

To continue epidemiologic research in the fields of HIV/AIDS, sexually transmitted diseases (STDs), and tropical diseases. In particular, to design, conduct, and evaluate non-vaccine (including use of antiretrovirals and microbicides)and vaccine interventions to reduce heterosexual and mother-to-child transmission of HIV. The mortality and morbidity impact of infectious diseases such as HIV, malaria, and STDs on mothers and children is of special interest. Development and testing of low cost intereventions is a major research direction. Training of scientists in conventional and non-conventional fields of Public Health is a commitment.
