Research and Professional Experience

My research interests include vulnerability to depression and the development of depression prevention strategies, with a focus on females and underserved populations. I am particularly interested in identifying mechanisms that underlie gender, class, and racial/ethnic disparities in depression. My work aims to define more clearly the pathways by which social status factors shape mental health outcomes via psychological and physiological responses.

I integrate my training as a clinical psychologist with approaches drawn from social psychology, sociology, and psychiatric epidemiology. My research has included laboratory-based experiments, as well as population-based data analyses and intervention and prevention trials.
