Research and Professional Experience

I conduct research on mental health services. I am particularly interested in finding ways to improve mental health services for children.

Much of my research has examined how organizational culture influences the delivery of mental health services in primary care. I am currently collaborating with Larry Wissow on a project sponsored by NIMH to develop and evaluate an intervention that trains Latino paraprofessionals to assist in the delivery of mental health services in primary care.

My other recent work has evaluated child mental health services in hospitals and residential treatment. Some of my past projects have included an evaluation of interventions designed to promote the mental health of mothers and their children in Latino and Chinese immigrant communities in New York City, an evaluation of policies to help youth aging out of foster care maintain Medicaid, and an evaluation of the SOAR Initiative which helps homeless individuals obtain SSI/SSDI benefits.
