Research and Professional Experience

Dr. Trujillo's research interests include health economics, policy analysis, and institutional behavior in developing countries. During the past four years, he has focused his attention on exploring using comparable household data from Argentina, Brazil, Chile and Mexico, the economic and non-economic determinants of health deterioration in old age.

His initial research was devoted to providing a better understanding of the optimal mix between public and private health insurance programs and the implications for individual medical expenditures and health. In his three papers on the Colombian health care reform, he analyzed the financial implications of this reform in terms of medical care consumption and selection problems not only for individuals in the work force, but also for the poorest individuals in society. Lastly, his work in Ecuador evaluates using a benefit incidence analysis (BIA) whether public health expenditure is regressive or progressive.

His work in progress includes: (1) Informal care and elderly's health in Mexico; (2)Economics of chronic conditions among elderly in Colombia;(3) Migration history and elderly's mental health in Mexico; and (4) Evaluation of hospital performance in Ghana. A DEA study

Before joining Johns Hopkins University, Antonio was an associate professor at the University of Central Florida. He taught in the department of health professions from 2000 to 2008.
