Research and Professional Experience

Personal objectives

To contribute to population health through quantitative and qualitative research in health sciences and through evidence-based contributions to real-life policy making.

Topics

1. Health policy for population health: priority setting, allocative efficiency, reimbursement, evidence-based practice guidelines, public health programs.

2. Data-driven integrated modeling of population health: lifetime health and cost of interventions related to heart disease, stroke, diabetes, chest disease, malaria, pneumonia, hepatitis in health systems research & health impact & reproduction assessments.

3. Real-life cluster-trial impact assessment of (system) interventions in chronic and other diseases; combined with model-based extrapolation and standardisation.

Keywords

Health systems, health economics, epidemiological modeling, health services research, health policy research, reimbursement decisions, professional medical guidelines, implementation trials, developing and developed countries. UN-agencies and country experiences: W-Europe, Peru (Amazon, Altiplano), NW Tanzania, S-Africa, Nepal (Terrai, Himal), India, and Cambodia.

Honors and Awards

-Founder Member, Netherlands Platform Global Health Policy & Health Systems Research; Scientific Commitees, IHEA and ECHE Conferences, 2006-now; Former Chair, Dutch Society Tropical Medicine & International Health; Vice-Chair 5th European Conference Tropical Medicine & International Health; Erasmus Medical School Board & Executive Board.
