Research and Professional Experience

My primary appointment is Associate Director for Cancer Prevention and Control at the Hollings Cancer Center, Blatt Ness Chair and Associate Professor of Epidemiology at the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston, South Carolina.

A current NCI-funded R01, based in the CLUE II study, is assessing the potential role of variation in DNA repair pathways in explaining the increased risk of noncutaneous malignancies observed in persons with a history of nonmelanoma skin cancer.

Other major interests center around the contribution of active and passive cigarette smoking to cancer etiology and tobacco control. This has included research in areas such as secondhand smoke and cancer, the use of nicotine replacement therapies in populations, and the epidemiology of lung cancer.

Keywords
