My major research objectives are to learn about the social, cultural and behavioural aspects of health and illness and related program design in the context of primary health care and health education in Africa. To date my research has focused on understanding both the preventive, illness and sick role behaviors related to endemic tropical and childhood illnesses, as well as the social, cultural and political influences on designing and delivering appropriate community based primary health case services to address these endemic health problems. I have endeavored to learn about health and health care from the community's perspective in order to develop communication bridges between consumers and providers, to learn appropriate community participation mechanisms and to strengthen community capacity during intervention research.

Some current projects include 1) Malaria in pregnancy control pilot project in Akwa Ibom State Nigeria, 2) Technical assistance to Nigeria malaria partners in resolving bottlenecks in Global Fund project implementation and Global Fund proposal writing, 3) Studying factors associated with annual compliance with ivermectin treatment for the African Program for Onchocerciasis Control (APOC), 4) Technical assistance to projects studying application of the community directed intervention approach of APOC to other health interventions.
